Game Room
I handcraft each wooden cribbage board in Canada from solid hardwood. Then I drill the peg holes by hand and finish each board with food-safe mineral oil. In the plainest sense, a cribbage board is a flat piece of wood with two columns of holes. But a real one feels good in the hand. It holds its pegs flush. And it outlives whoever first dealt the cards. So that’s the standard here.
What makes a wooden cribbage board worth keeping
First, the wood. The Padauk and Ash board pairs a 120-point padauk playing surface with a magnetic ash storage base. In particular, padauk runs deep orange and ages to a rich brown. Likewise, ash plays light against the darker wood, with the grain still showing. Second, the Aromatic Cedar board is a live edge piece. Furthermore, it keeps the tree’s natural bark edge intact. And it carries the cedar scent into the room it lives in.
Most importantly, I drill each peg hole by hand. The fit isn’t so loose that pegs fall out, nor so tight you can’t seat them. As a result, the board plays right from the first deal.
Ready to play on arrival
Every cribbage set ships ready to play. A new deck of cards. A set of pegs. And a velvet drawstring peg bag for travel between games. However, the Padauk and Ash board adds a magnetic storage base. The pegs stay put inside the board itself. Either way, set the board on the table, deal the cards, and play.
Care, custom orders, and shipping
Care is simple. Keep the board dry. Re-oil once or twice a year with mineral oil. Or use a tin of Board Butter for the easy version. Meanwhile, every wooden cribbage board ships from Virden, Manitoba, across Canada and the US.
